Gingival disease (periodontitis) is caused mostly by the accumulation of plaque in this disease. It is a progressive type of gingivitis, sometimes inflammation of the gingiva.

Periodontal disease occurs due to other factors besides plaque, the risk of smoking, daily brushing or fluffing, encounter with relatives who have developed periodontal disease is high.

The Australian Health and Welfare Laboratory summarizes the nature of the disease as being caused by bacteria that affect the gums, deep connective tissue, and the jawbone.

Symptoms are as follows.

& Bull; In most cases, red and sensitive swollen gum.

& Bull; Chronic halitosis.

& Bull; Gum to retreat.

& Bull; A deep pocket is formed in the lining between the teeth and the gums, which may clog the pus.

Bleed during brushing and after brushing.

& Bull; Tooth loosens and moves.

& Bull; Change in fit of tooth when chewing.

The Australian Dental Association (Australian Dental Association) explains the purpose of treatment to prevent disease progression. This is a lifelong activity. According to The American Dental Association, surgery is either surgery or surgery.

a) non-surgical means

I. Scaling

The purpose of this process is to remove the plaque on the tooth surface. Instruments called scalers are used, in other cases electronic devices (ultrasound / acoustic scaler) are preferred because they are faster and more comfortable for the patient.

ii. Route Planning

This is to enlarge the root of the tooth, not the surface, to prevent the accumulation of tartar.

iii. Antibiotics

These drugs kill bacteria that cause plaque. It comes in the form of a mouse rinse or gel applied to the periodontal pocket and promotes the healing of tissues and oral tablets to control bacterial infection.

The two processes of scaling and route planning are commonly referred to as deep cleansing. It is used when patients have mild or average cases of gum disease. If this process is exhaustive, there is usually no need for further treatment and it is necessary to maintain excellent oral hygiene practices so as not to recur.

b) surgical means

Surgery is necessary if the nonsurgical means does not heal periodontal pockets caused by plaque-causing bacteria, or in the case of severe periodontitis.

This process is invasive, as the surgeon must reach the root of the tooth where the plaque and tartar are formed under the gums, and the bacteria completely destroy the bone and tissue holding the gingiva. Calculus (tartar) is interesting to note that accumulation of plaque is harder than bone.

Bone and tissue grafts and gingival valve surgery is the most common type of surgery.

The bone graft reconstructs or reforms the bone and the tissue graft is used to fill the place where the gum has retreated, covering the roots or developing the gum tissue. Stimulate tissue to regenerate lost tissue and bone.

Since flap surgery reduces the depth of the pocket formed, the area occupied by bacteria decreases. In this procedure, fold the gum to reach the root. The tartar is cleaned and the pocket is filled. The gum is then stitched back into place.
