Vitilgo is pronounced vit-ill-EYE-go. It is basically an impairment of pigmentation and some cells that make up this pigment are reduced or they are destroyed. Cells that cause pigment production are called melanocytes. The destruction of these melanocytes present in our skin leads to several white patches that show their appearance in various parts of the body. You can also find these patches on the retina in the inner layer of the eyeball. (These are the membranes present inside the nose and mouth). Even hair that can be found in these areas will be affected by this disease. They also begin to turn white as a result of vitilgo's decline and destruction.
There is no broad cause responsible for this disease. There are various causes that cause the spread of this disease. Different researchers, scientists, doctors have different opinions. People suffering from this disease have been shown to have a specific group of three genes that are more prone to pigmentation of these patients. vitilgo is thought to be a disease in which autologous autoimmune system works against any of organs, tissues and cells of the body. This results in depigmentation. Cytokines are a type of protein produced by our bodies. Cytokines alter the properties of chromogenic cells and cause extremely pigmentation. There are many people who believe melon cells are the cause of their destruction. There are many beliefs and theories here. However, no reason has been accepted by all experts so far. There is no scientific reason behind these events.
The most common symptom of vitilgo is the appearance of a white patch on the skin as a result of pigmentation. Such areas and patches are often found in the parts exposed to the sun like legs, hands, lips, arms, and face. However, there are certain areas like the eyes, umbilicus, nostrils, mouth, but that area also serves as its food.
The symptoms of vitilgo remain confined to specific areas and do not spread. In most cases, symptoms are localized and will not spread to nearby body parts. However, over time these patches can spread to other parts of the body.
For proper diagnosis of this disease, we will examine the medical history and carry out some tests.
