
Miscellaneous connective tissue disease (MCTD) is a disease characterized by Raynaud's phenomenon, swollen hands, arthritis, esophageal hypomotility, myositis, pulmonary hypertension, scleroderma, skin rash, leukopenia, pleurisy, pericarditis and high levels of Ribonucleoprotein antibody. Women are 10 times more affected than this condition than men.
MCTD treatment of Ayurveda is aimed at controlling symptoms, maintaining normal function, preventing or delaying complications. Drugs are given to treat the involvement of specific organs or systems. Sutshekhar-Ras, Praval-Panchamrut, Laghu-Sutshekhar, and Shankh-Vati are used to treat low motility of the esophagus. The phenomenon of Raynaud can be handled using Tapyadi-Loh, Ekang-Veer-Ras, Kaishor-Guggulu, Mahamanjishthadi-Qadha, Saarivasav. Arthritis can be treated using medicines such as Yograj - Guggulu, Punarnavadi - Guggulu, Maha - Rasnadi - Qadha, Dashmoolarishta, Maha - Vat - Vidhwans - Ras, Vat - Gajankush - Ras, Agnitundi - Vati. Myositis and swollen hands can be treated with drugs such as Punarnavadi-Guggulu, Punarnavadi-Qadha, Panch-Tikta-Ghrut-Guggulu, Trayodashang-Guggulu and Gokshuradi-Guggulu.
Skin rashes can be treated with medicines such as Mahamanjishthadi-Qadha, Saarivasav, Arogya-Vardhini, Panch-Tikta-Ghrut and Panch-Tikta-Ghrut-Guggulu. Leukopenia is treated with medications such as Tapyadi-Loh, Punarnavadi-Mandur, Panch-Tikta-Ghrut, Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Haridra (Curcuma longa), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) and Musta (Cyperus rotundus) can do. Scleroderma can be treated with Kaishor-Guggulu, Gokshur (Tribulus terrestris), Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa), Dashmool (Ten roots), Amalaki and Guduchi. Syphilis and pericarditis can be treated with medicines such as Ras-Sindur, Malla-Sindur, Sameer-Pannag-Ras, Arjunarishta, Shrung-Bhasma, Arjun (Terminalia arjuna) and Pushkarmool (Inula racemosa) . Pulmonary hypertension is treated with medicines such as Tapiyadhi R, Punanabadi Kada, Schurn Bashma, Laksady Guggul, Lakshmi Villas Ras, Burhatt Bat Syntamani.
In addition, it is necessary to provide other medications to improve the body's immune status and to prevent involvement of multiple organs and systems in this disease. Medicines such as Suvarna - Malini - Vasant, Suvarna - Parpati, Bruhat - Vat - Chintamani and Maha - Laxmi - Vilas - Ras are used for this purpose. Chinese herbal medicines such as Shatavari (Asparagus Rasemosas), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Bala (Sida cordifolia), Naagbala (Grewia hirsuta) can also be used for this purpose. Systemic regular massage using very fine powders of Manjishtha, Yashtimadhuk and Mandukparni also greatly helps in treating or preventing the involvement of multiple systems in MCTD.
Patients suffering from MCTD should adopt healthy lifestyle and appropriate mitigation techniques to prevent or delay complications of the disease. All patients suffering from MCTD should be under regular care and supervision of rheumatologists.
