Researchers from the Montreal Hospital Research Center and several research institutions in Canada are associated with gestational diabetes or pregnancy related diabetes with cardiovascular disease risk up to 25 years of age. Their research was conducted in January 2018 Acta diabetes.

Researchers compared 67,356 women diagnosed with gestational diabetes and 1,003,311 women without this condition for about 25 years after childbirth. We found that the risk of hospitalization for women who developed diabetes during pregnancy was high.

  • Any cardiac and vascular disease,
  • Ischemic heart disease,
  • heart attack,
  • Coronary angioplasty, and
  • Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
More than women with health history of pregnancy.

Hospitalization for cardiovascular disease for women

  • Normal pregnancy - 118/1000
  • Gestational Diabetes - 190/1000
Risk rate of cardiovascular disease

  • Ischemic heart disease - If diagnosed as diabetes during pregnancy, the risk will rise by 23%.
  • heart attack - The risk of gestational diabetes has more than doubled.
  • Coronary angioplasty - More than twice the risk of developing diabetes during pregnancy
  • CABG - Gestation diabetes more than three times the risk.
Investigators concluded that gestational diabetes significantly increased the risk of cardiovascular disease in the next 25 years. They recommended detailed monitoring of pregnant women when pregnant diabetes was diagnosed.

Related cardiac and blood vessel problems include the following ...

Ischemic heart disease It occurs when coronary arteries carrying blood from the aorta to myocardium are occluded. With rapid medical aid, the area can be reperfused with blood and recovered.

2. Heart attack It also occurs when a coronary artery does not deliver sufficient oxygenated blood to the myocardium. The resulting ischemia becomes permanent and is called myocardial infarction.

Coronary angioplasty It is usually a procedure to insert a balloon-attached tube into the artery of the groin. The tube is screwed into the clogged coronary artery and blown away. The balloon pushes back the arterial wall, opens the artery, and allows blood to flow into the myocardium through it.

4. CABG (pronounced cabbage) Open chest surgery is necessary. When the coronary artery is clogged, the vein to be preserved is removed from the leg and transplanted into the heart as a new coronary artery.

Gestational diabetes is usually diagnosed on satiety at 24-28 weeks gestation. Fortunately, scientists are working on an early detection method to predict the state of the first 3 months. If the doctor can predict the condition before it begins, you will be able to prevent elevated blood glucose levels by diet, exercise, and probably medication.
